Where theatre connects community

Actors Theatre Workshop
The Actors Theatre Workshop is an award-winning non-profit theatre and educational institution that expands our collective and individual potential through drama. ATW's community theatre and diverse programming unearth and help resolve our struggles in life and society.
No individual challenge is too personal, no topic is taboo, no struggle is too overwhelming (although they may be very, very difficult). Our techniques are designed to explore our shared humanity and use theatre and acting as mechanisms for deeper discovery, self-belief, and personal fulfillment.

ATW’s creative innovation in drama, acting, and theatre education transforms lives and communities through award-winning programs and productions, led by Artistic Director and Founder Thurman E. Scott.

By liberating the talents and abilities of people from all walks of life – from homeless children to the incarcerated to the educationally and economically privileged – ATW creates tangible change, empathetic and empowered individuals, and resilient communities. We’ve worked with over 10,000 individuals and invite you to help us reach more.

In order to make the crucial contact which makes learning, teaching and the exchange of ideas possible, the teacher or facilitator must understand the background of each child. He must understand that every member of society feels validated in some places and invalidated in others.
